Not to mention other questionable things. Why is
`write-file-functions' set locally on `whitespace-global-mode'? That's
not going to set it for every new buffer. Perhaps the intent of
`whitespace-global-mode' is to be a global minor mode à la
define-globalized-minor-mode, but it is not working right now...
