No. Sorry, this was my mistake. If it was deliberate I would explain such a
change to th mailing list. I think I've put it back now.

The funny thing is, the same happened to me with src/ChangeLog. I'd
almost suspect some weird CVS post-restoration fluke.

Probably because the revision in your working tree was newer than the
restored backup, so you missed some revisions when you updated.
Andreas.

Aha. I think you're right.
Well, I've checked out a fresh working copy to avoid more surprises like that.

Shouldn't that be registered in the ChangeLog with the commit's date?

Uh, uhm. That was the commit's date into my personal repository (when I
apparently also did the ChangeLog entry which applied without conflict).
Sorry, my mistake. I'll move this to a more sensible place and date.

Please, be careful when editing the ChangeLogs. They are in utf-8 and
you've managed to save them in a different encoding. Perhaps you're
overriding it in your .emacs somehow?

Strange. I believe that lately I haven't changed anything in my
setup that could be related to this behavior. (But I upgraded from
GNU Emacs 22.1 to 22.2.) I'll look into that!

I'm not sure, but perhaps it's using Emacs 22 to edit Emacs 23
ChangeLogs that messes things up:

No, that was the other way around: editing Emacs 22 ChangeLogs with
Emacs 23 was problematic. The Emacs 23 ChangeLogs are utf-8, have a
proper coding tag and can be edited with Emacs 22 just fine. I don't
know what Roland did to mess this up.

I am most surprised that I checked in ChangeLog twice that day. The
first time it screwed up the utf-8, the second time it didn't. In
the meanwhile, I did not change anything in my setup. (It was after
I checked in ChangeLog the second time that I learned from Juanma
that things went wrong when I checked in ChangeLog the first time.)

At some point I restored the utf-8 encoding. Was that between your commits?

My revision 1.13442 broke the utf-8 encoding, your revision 1.13443
fixed it again. My second check-in was 1.13444 which was fine. Strange.
