Use this additional function:

 (defun my-exclude-file-from-backup (&optional file)
   (interactive (list (read-file-name "File to exclude: " nil nil t
buffer-file-name)))
   (my-exclude-from-backup (expand-file-name file)))

It should default to the buffer's visited file.
