For the past few days, the latest CVS version of emacs (on the latest,
fully updated Ubuntu) will compile just fine, but won't run. I've
submitted a bug report, but I'm curious about whether this is
peculiar to me, or if others are having problems also.

Its working fine for me on Hardy, you better give more details.

I've only had a minor problem (which I recently reported): tab
completion fails in some cases in a *shell* buffer. Other than that,
things seem fine.

Thanks for the update.
The latest Ubuntu update gave a new x11server-core, and that seems to
have fixed the problem. So the problem was with my computer, not
Emacs.
