If I press ü, it also waits in minibuffer ü- . Then I press SPACE. It displays \221\374\240. C-u C-x = on it: character: ? Please find the screenshot in the attachment. The word is 'größer'. If the cursor is moved over the ö or ß, it can be displayed correctly. Otherwise, the two letters look like a strange chinese character. The third one is 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen', the ü and ß can't be displayed. This is same on both ntemacs23 and ntemacs22. But it can be displayed on Emacs under Linux.
