Starting with: (setq-default indicate-empty-lines t)

The empty-line fringe bitmap in Emacs 21 on Solaris looks like a single
centered square, but in Emacs 22 on Windows it looks like 6 horizontal
lines. How can I get Emacs 22 to display the old bitmap?

I've read the Customizing Fringe Bitmaps section of the Emacs Lisp
manual and looked at src/fringe.c in CVS. But this is as far as
I've gotten:

(define-fringe-bitmap 'empty-line
   (vector (

Thanks,

The intention is that the "the fringe below eob" should contain a lot of
evenly spaced small dashes; i.e. it is independent of the font size.
Do you get some other effect?

(define-fringe-bitmap 'empty-line [0 0 #x3c #x3c #x3c #x3c 0 0])

Bummer.

No, that's exactly what I see.

M-: (setq-default indicate-empty-lines t) RET
M-: (define-fringe-bitmap 'empty-line [0 0 #x3c #x3c #x3c #x3c 0 0]) RET
C-l

works for me.
