I think it would be nice if executable-find could be called 
interactively with completion and display its result, just
like load-library:

   (interactive
    (list (completing-read "Find executable: "
			  'locate-file-completion
			  (cons exec-path exec-suffixes))))
...
   (when (interactive-p)
     (if result
	(message "Executable is file %s" (abbreviate-file-name result))
       (message "No exectuable %s in search path" command)))
