HI Peter,
 1. YOu can do C-x 3 many times and  see so many lines simultaneousy.
If you can create 8 vertical windows, you can see 80*8  = 640 lines 
with follow-mode.

2. Assuming you are using google to post. (From your headers)
This is what happens
A. You post via google
B. Google gets it and sends it to thousands of news-servers arround
the world.
C. Someone reads that and gives the answer/
D. Google Receives the answer.
D. It's time for google to display your post on google.
E. Google post your question and displays your question and the answer
given by another user.




2. If you are posting via google, it goes to thousands of news servers
even  before google even displays it for viewing. Google's posting
takes 3 to 9 hours before showing on google. If anyone replys from
that news server, it can reach to google too, just like you post from
google.
