I recently started using nXhtml, and I noticed that sometimes or
always
it is quite slow. For example with certain files - not even very big
ones - editing PHP code is sluggish: There is a noticeable delay
between
hitting a key and a character appearing on the screen. Just a fraction
of a second, but annoying enough.

Any option that can be tweaked?

I had this problem and solved it with byte compilation
of nxhtml with:

M-x nxhtmlmaint-start-byte-compilation

After that I restarted emacs and
 got 5 times faster environment
for xhtml and php
combined. No more delays when editing.

I hope this will do for you also.
