Is org-mode capable of rendering equations in emacs in the way they would show
after processing a document. I would like to have the hypertext capability so
I can hide or show different heading levels in org-mode upon the rendered output.

Try org-latex-preview (bound to C-c C-x C-l by default).

I'm not sure how this is related to your first question.

I would like to have the capability of showing and hiding some equations as I do with
org headings.

There's a package called outshine, available in MELPA. It allows you to
have cycleable org-style headings in non org buffers. I'm not a latex
user, but I think it should work there too...
