* Tramp hangs/freezes when opening some remote files over ssh on Ubuntu 14.04 client.

I've confirmed the following problem happens even with emacs -q....

I can ssh to a remote server.

I can traverse remote server directories with local Emacs Tramp.

When I try to open some files it freezes with messages like the following...

   Tramp: Inserting `/ssh:cs@philfour.com:/home/cs/Ws/philfour/mvc/views/booklist.html'...done

I can't see debug output when I add (setq tramp-verbose 500)
to .emacs because when I try to open remote file with Tramp
it freezes?!!?

I found some discussion about issues with Ubuntu 14.04 here:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17588136/emacs-24-3-1-tramp-hangs-on-opening-file

I tried adding following to .ssh/config like it said but it didn't fix....

Host philfour.com
ControlMaster auto
ControlPath ~/.ssh/%r@%h:%p
ServerAliveCountMax=30
ServerAliveInterval=5

I suspect this persons Tramp problems on Ubuntu 14.04 are related...

Any help great appreciated.

Sincerely,

Chris Seberino

Try C-g (even several times) whether Emacs unfreezes. If it doesn't
help, send the Emacs process the USR2 signal, or the FPE
signal. Sometimes this unfreezes Emacs, and you are able to investigate
the Tramp buffer.

Well, experience tells that there are a lot of possibilities that Tramp
does not succeed to connect. Often, it is the prompt of the remote shell.

Best regards, Michael.

That unfroze it so I could paste the debug info seen below!

It is true that I had escape codes and other goo in my zsh prompt to make it fancy. I removed it but still had the same problem.

Here is the end of the tramp debug output...

I just noticed if I do C-g it *unfreezes* things and the file loaded just fine!!!

So the problem isn't that file isn't found or loaded....the problem is it gets
stuck at the 11th hour for some reason!!!

I tried switching from zsh to base with the default shell prompt and still same.
