Hi,

Launch Emacs with the -Q option, evaluate the following form, and
type `C-e'. The cursor doesn't move. Is it only for me?

(let ((buffer (get-buffer-create "*testing*")))
  (pop-to-buffer buffer)
  (erase-buffer)
  (setq truncate-lines t)
(insert "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.\
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.\
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.\
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.\
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.\n")
  (goto-char (point-min)))

I see this on MS-Windows in a GUI session, but not in -nw: it works in
the latter case. Does it work for you with -nw?

I will look into this, it's possible it's again a problem with the
rewritten cursor-positioning code. Thanks for reporting this.

Yes, no problem with -nw.

Thanks.

Not necessarily; or not only that, anyway. I've been occasionaly
experiencing similar problems (in GUI, but I rarely use -nw) with
23.1.91.1, i.e. before the bidi merge.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to narrow it down (it occurs only
rarely), and the above recipe does not show the problem for me (so,
sorry for not being very helpful, but I figured I'd mention that
anyway).

It's good to know. I will look into it, anyway.

Really? Is that with -Q? On what platform? For me, it happens every
time I try that recipe.

Thanks.

Yes, but I still use 23.1.91.1:

In GNU Emacs 23.1.91.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
 of 2010-01-21 on headley
Windowing system distributor `The X.Org Foundation', version 11.0.10400090
configured using `configure '--with-x-toolkit=lucid''

Important settings:
  value of $LC_ALL: nil
  value of $LC_COLLATE: nil
  value of $LC_CTYPE: nil
  value of $LC_MESSAGES: nil
  value of $LC_MONETARY: nil
  value of $LC_NUMERIC: nil
  value of $LC_TIME: nil
  value of $LANG: en_GB.UTF-8
  value of $XMODIFIERS: @im=scim
  locale-coding-system: utf-8-unix
  default enable-multibyte-characters: t

Major mode: Fundamental

Minor modes in effect:
  tooltip-mode: t
  mouse-wheel-mode: t
  tool-bar-mode: t
  menu-bar-mode: t
  file-name-shadow-mode: t
  global-font-lock-mode: t
  blink-cursor-mode: t
  auto-encryption-mode: t
  auto-compression-mode: t
  line-number-mode: t
  transient-mark-mode: t

With this configuration, the `let' form provided does not reproduce the problem.

Found the problem. It was my fault, after all. I installed a fix,
and the problem should be gone now. Please try again.
