When I attempt to archive a DONE item, using 5.02, I get
( this is from the message buffer)
Copied: Subtree with 326 characters
if: Cannot promote to level 0. UNDO to recover if necessary
In the status line, I see
Cannot promote to level 0. UNDO to recover if necessary
Now, the item itself IS copied to my archive file, but it does not contain an
archive time stamp, and the original item is left alone in the original file.
Any ideas? I haven't changed any config settings since around the last of the
4.xx series of ORG.

Fixed, thanks.
This was a bug related to the fact that the space after stars in
a headline is now required. There may be more little things
like this, please keep reporting.

Archiving works almost perfectly in 5.03, thanks.
Here's the new problem.
Defined in my .emacs, I have
'(org-todo-keywords (quote ("TODO" "REQUIREMENTS" "ACCOMPLISH" "VALIDATE"
"TEST" "|" "CANCEL" "DONE")))
What is happening is that, when I archive an item, it gets moved correctly,
the archive stamp is written correctly, but instead of saying DONE, it says
CANCEL.
Actually, is this a bug? Or should I just reorder my list to have DONE come
before CANCEL. I thought that I read somewhere that DONE had to be the last
item in the line, but I don't seem to see that now that I'm trying to find it.

Org-mode simply picks the first state after "|" for this.
You could re-order, or we could allow a string value for
org-archive-mark-done, in order to specify the keyword to be used.

If you don't care about the sequence of DONE and CANCEL, you can just
reorder.
Since we have the "|" to separate TODO and DONE states, DONE does not
have to be last.
Only if you do not specify "|", then the last keyword is used as a state
meaning that the item is done.

Thanks, because putting DONE in front of CANCEL works just fine for me. Now
everything works very well.
Thank you for all your efforts in providing what has to be the best support
for a software project that I have ever encountered.
<huzzah> <huzzah> Long live Carsten!
