Hi,
today, I installed X-Symbol 4.45 on a SuSE 8.1 system running EMACS
21.2.1. As far as I can tell the install went almost fine (no x-symbol
error messages in *Messages* other than the one explained below, and
displaying symbols works). However, I can't save LaTeX files anymore.
Here's the error message I get upon hitting C-x C-s:
x-symbol-write-file-hook: Symbol's function definition is void:
continue-save-buffer
Any ideas what might be causing this?
Felix

How about making the life of Christoph Wedler easier by asking with
the help of the
M-x x-symbol-package-bug RET
command? That will give him some more information, too.
I am sure that this would improve your chances for a competent fix
rather than letting him hunt through Usenet groups for incomplete
information.

Crypt++.

That's too risky.

Hm, crypt++ works fine for me. I want to avoid trying out another
system.

Yes, but I haven't configured email support for EMACS. However, I can
send you the info that gets displayed after executing
x-symbol-package-bug. I attached it below.

FWIW, I put (auto-compression-mode 1) in my ~/.emacs and then it just
worked. No additional work required.

I have it in my .emacs as well.

What works? I don't see what auto-compression-mode has to do with crypt
or x-symbol.

Well, auto-compression-mode is defined in jka-compr. And C-x C-f
foo.gz RET gunzips the file for convenient viewing.
I think that crypt++ can do gzip-like stuff and it can also do
pgp-like stuff, but jka-compr doesn't do pgp. So are you using the
encryption functionality of crypt++? In that case, my remark was
wildly off-target, sorry.
(It could be dangerous to have both jka-compr and crypt++ enabled;
they might be stepping on each other's toes. But I don't know.)
