I'm unable to enter the simplified chinese character 驴 (a donkey)
as lu:2 [1] using Emacs input method chinese-tonepy-punct. The
workaround is to use lu:5 which is not very correct.
C-h C-a reports "This is GNU Emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-suse-linux-gnu, X
toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars) of 2010-04-01 on build17"
I set the input method using set-input-method 'chinese-tonepy-punct
which gives me the mode line indicator 拼符.
The poor donkey is not as impressive as a gnu, but a useful animal.
Why can't he have his lu:2?

How about lv? v is to represented as u: in most input methods.

Try `chinese-py' instead.

I tried M-x set-input-method and entered chinese-py but I cannot
find 驴 using "lu".
However using SCIM zh-tonepy as input front-end to emacs gives 驴 as
first choice for lv2.

You should use ``chinese-py'' and type ``lv'' to find 驴.
The ``lu:'' only works in ``chinese-tongpy''-likes, on all other
Chinese input method, v is substitute ü.
