I'm not sure whether or not it's worth constructing these temporary macros defmacro and defun - We've only got 2 defmacros and 4 defuns for them to process, after all. But I'm glad you seem to agree with the idea as a way of getting rid of the extensive hand expanded backquote forms in byte-run.el. By the way, I'm still working on the feature/positioned-lambda branch after finding a bug there.
