Is it possible to have the text alternatively change colour, to separate one paragraph from the next?

A starting point could be:
https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/StripesMode
That is line by line, but not paragraph by paragrah.

How can I change both the background and background colour in `stripes' ? The following
highlights the foreground but not the background.
(defface stripes-face
`((t (:background "ff0000" :foreground "#ffff00")))
"Face for alternate lines."
:group 'stripes)

I suggest choosing colors by {M-x list-colors-display RET}

I would rather do it from the code itself.
