Why space after plus?

From manual:

"Whitespace characters such as space, tab, newline and formfeed..."

So this does not match new line:

(string-match "[\s]+" "
") ⇒ nil

Neither TAB or FORM FEED:
(string-match "[\s]+" "	") ⇒ nil

(string-match "[\s]+" "\f") ⇒ nil
