I think C-= > would be the best key for this: not only is "=" a good mnemonic for "same > command", but it is also next to the "-" key to change the direction. It depends entirely on your keyboard layout. On a standard German keyboard, for example, = is 0, so C-= would mean pressing three keys at the same time. Also on the same keyboard, - and = are nowhere near eachother. Also, does C-= even exist on a typical tty layout? Also[2], C-= is likely bound to many users' personal commands.
