May one store diary file at another location than  ~/.emacs.d/diary or ~/diary?
And if so, how may I do that?

You may customize the variable: diary-file

You may inspect various variables by using {C-h v} and starting to
type what you think it could be related like: diary and then TAB for
completion, then you find variables related to diary (usually, not a
rule).
