I use emacs on different machines. Normally I would want the backspace key
to have back-ward delete function. But one of the machines would have it as
forward delete function. How can I set it to be back-ward delete function?

 

The emacs version on the sgi machine I use is

 

> emacs --version

GNU Emacs 21.3.1
