(X)Emacs abbrev mode

Hi,

I was wondering if you could tell me why the following works in XEmacs and 
not in Emacs.

I have the following abbreviation

     ("\\s" "\\section{}\\label{:sec:}" backward-char 0)

such that in XEmacs when I type '\s' followed by a space it prints

   \section{}\label{:sec:}


In Emacs, this does not work. It does not recognise the '\\s' 
abbreviation. I have to use

     ("s" "\\section{}\\label{:sec:}" backward-char 0)

for this to work.

Is this a bug?
