Though I have (setq tramp-verbose 10) (setq tramp-debug-buffer t) in my .emacs, it isn't regularly producing the trace. It has done it twice over the past couple of weeks, it seems only for the first time after emacs is loaded. Do I have to exit and then (re)start emacs each time I want the trace output? thanks, ken
