Most of the times I use it for one session of emacs. When one sets bookmarks, it seems the position is saved for future sessions. However, sometimes I want to use C-x r m in some buffers not associated with files, like *scratch*. Why not just set the bookmark (that works with C-x r b), and since there is no file associated, just do not save for future session, instead of just give the error message... In next input I failed to make a keyboard macro due to this "feature" of emacs. []'s Miguel.
