= Hello,
=
= I am having problems with emacs on my Red Hat 7.3 box(webserver). I
= have had this box installed in the current fashion since about
= September. I have been running the latest version of emacs on it
= since then with no problems. Last week I started getting Error
= segmentation fault (11) when trying to run emacs. This was no matter
= what user I was logged in as. I tried removing and then reinstalling
= emacs using the lastest RPM last Friday. It worked after I did this.
= This morning I started to get the segmenation fault again. I tried
= removing emacs again, then when I try to reinstall emacs i get:
=
= rpm -ivh emacs-21.2-2.i386.rpm
= Preparing...
= ########################################### [100%]
= 1:emacs warning:
= /etc/X11/applnk/Applications/emacs.desktop created as
= /etc/X11/applnk/Applications/emacs.desktop.rpmnew
= warning: /etc/skel/.emacs created as /etc/skel/.emacs.rpmnew
= error: unpacking of archive failed on file
= /usr/share/emacs/21.2/lisp/emacs-lisp/bytecomp.elc;3e487d09: cpio: MD5
= sum mismatch
The line above would indicate that "bytecomp.elc" is corrupt. Try to
download emacs-21.2-2.i386.rpm again. Prior to installing, run
rpm --checksig emacs-21.2-2.i386.rpm
to verify that the new package is installable.
hth,
ken
=
= Anyone know my best course of action for this? I am scared to
= manually remove the files the rpm started to create.
