In GNU Emacs 21.3.1 (i386-msvc-nt5.0.2195) of 2003-03-28 on buffy configured using `configure --with-msvc (12.00)' Important settings: value of $LC_ALL: nil value of $LC_COLLATE: nil value of $LC_CTYPE: nil value of $LC_MESSAGES: nil value of $LC_MONETARY: nil value of $LC_NUMERIC: nil value of $LC_TIME: nil value of $LANG: ENU locale-coding-system: iso-latin-1 default-enable-multibyte-characters: t Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I was editing a fairly normal, fairly small perl script (about 150 lines, about 200 bytes) when response got very slow (it eventually came back to life; it should not take seconds to insert a single character, even if the character may trigger some action, such as code indentation. One would think that the code indenter keeps some state information). I've tried turning off the whitespace 'feature', which does seem to make some difference, but emacs will still hang on occasion. I have been having much worse problems, especially in fortran and f90 modes, both of which will completely hang. The minibuffer window also tends to have weird garbage in it.
