This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

In GNU Emacs 21.3.1 (i386-msvc-nt5.0.2195)
 of 2003-03-28 on buffy
configured using `configure --with-msvc (12.00)'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Action: dired a Windows network drive l:/ or d:/
Dired itself works perfectly, but fontifying shows a bug:
sub-directories with network drive letter "l:" and "d:" under Windows
are not recognized as font-lock-type-face in dired.el. Accordingly,
set-face-foreground and set-face-background do not show any effect.
Workaround: disconnect network drive l:/ and use a different letter.

regards,
Hans-J

Please make sure you see the same problem with "emacs -q".

How about
____4____9____4____9____4____9
? It’s a bit easier on the eyes.
Or even ____+____+____+____+
and....+....+....+....+

Much harder to determine length than RMS's suggestion, I think.

FWIW, I've long used a command that (temporarily) inserts 2 lines like this in an Emacs buffer, for quick comparison with the lines before/after.

                    1 2 3 4 5 6 7
