I'd like to suggest a feature that it appears does not exist.
That is to define a hook which would be a list of functions
to filter the list of buffers to consult.  Each functiob might
receive one argument, the list of buffers, and return a replacement list
(which could be a modified version of the argument, or the argument
unmodifier).
