It was to avoid bothering everyone with more mail, since you seemed to know what to do. Similarly with: automake --version aclocal --version If these don't match, reinstall automake (which provides both). That is the problem. I installed automake from source and did not know aclocal was separate. So I installed the binary automake package, and now it works.
