One thing we can do right now is: (define-key function-key-map [S-up] (lambda (prompt) (setq foo-shited t) [up])) It is rather kludgy to set `foo-shited' that way. (And can you be sure it is reliably reset to nil? What if you type C-g at the wrong moment?) Why do this rather than directly bind S-up to a command that does exactly what is wanted?
