Subject: spelling error and observations
Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2008 22:47:49 -0500	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <E1JGndV-0006PT-KA@fencepost.gnu.org> (raw)

The Sixteenth Edition printed manual (version 22) has a spelling
error: 3.1, pg 18, "suspendion of its subjobs" should probably be
"suspension of its subjobs" or suspending.

4.2 (pg 22) also needs some clarification. M-g g and M-g M-g are
mentioned in the list, but unexplained (also see M-g M-n and M-g n).

On the same page, M-x goto-char (and goto-line) is a bit confusing
in its explanation. "Read a number n (you will be prompted for the
number)....Position 1 is the beginning of the buffer (ie the first
character in the buffer)" might clarify the meaning. Once goto-char
is explained this way, M-x goto-line makes more sense.

Finally, page 520, in the note, links to a URL with a .xhtml
extension. This should be .html. Though .xhtml works, it is a
symbolic link to the .html file; this is a problem because .xhtml
is an application/xml+xhtml MIME type, and our webserver only
sends our files as text/html (sending .xhtml as text/html might
be considered against w3 standard, whereas sending XHTML 1.0 as
.html--text/html--at least is allowed, if imperfect); plus reliance
on the symlink instead of the real file risks link breakage.
