The problem is that all those bugs are here because the corresponding authors just didn't think, so they are unlikely to use this new arg either. The issue is not directly about what anyone is likely to do. The issue is how to make it easy to fix these things. I agree it would be nice if this were so clear that nobody would ever do it wrong, but that may be too much to ask.
