Subject: 23.0.50; shell process quits in *shell*

Hello!

When I write in *shell* buffer

	xrdb -merge RET
	Emacs*font:	<some font spec> RET
	C-d

I get:

	<prompt> exit

	Process shell finished

GNU Emacsen 22.1.50 and 23.0.0 and 21.1.50 do not behave that
improperly.
