He probably won't expect to be in danger when opening something.png, because he probably won't know about the vulnerability. For most GNU/Linux systems, the vulnerable image libraries will be replaced by fixed versions via (automatic) online updates soon. That is true for many users, but there is a substantial fraction that, like me, hardly ever updates software.
