Part of the text in the documentation patch is about `comint.el' (and
thus of concern to all of innumerable modes based on it).
Can you find a suitable doc string to put that in?
The other
text is specifically about `shell.el'.
Can you find a suitable doc string to put that in?
Or a good place in shell.el?
What will make maintainers read it before sending (unnecessary)
questions to users?
People normally read the comments in the vicinity of the code they are
working on.
