Missing space between mode-line-position and mode-line-modes

	* bindings.el (mode-line-format): Save some mode line space.

causes mode-line-position and mode-line-modes to run together once the
line number reaches 1000.  IMHO the change should be reverted, or
either mode-line-position or mode-line-modes should gain an unconditional
space at the end or at the start, resp.

It certainly should not be reverted -- this is better than the old
behavior, because it avoids wasting some of the space.

I made a change that ought to improve it
without using as much space as previously.
