I saw a strange behavior of emacs-21.3 on FreeBSD-ia64.
% uname -a
FreeBSD pluto2.freebsd.org 6.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 6.0-CURRENT #1: Sun Apr 24 01:29:20 UTC 2005 marcel@pluto2.freebsd.org:/q/obj/q/6.x/src/sys/PLUTO2 ia64
(emacs-version)
=> "GNU Emacs 21.3.1 (ia64-unknown-freebsd6.0) of 2005-04-24 on pluto2.freebsd.org"
1. Apply patch in FreeBSD ports tree.
2. autoconf, configure and make
3. start emacs and evaluate
(progn (require 'message))
then I got attached backtrace.

Emacs 21.3 is rather old. Could you try this with the current
development Emacs from savannah.gnu.org?

I thought following warning suggests something goes wrong
on the environment:
gcc -c -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/local/include -L/usr/local/lib -Demacs -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I/q/scratch/yoichi/emacs/src -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/local/include -L/usr/local/lib -g -O2 buffer.c
/var/tmp//cc8Xu3Hj.s: Assembler messages:
/var/tmp//cc8Xu3Hj.s:21554: Warning: Use of 'mov' may violate WAW dependency 'GR%, % in 1 - 127' (impliedf), specific resource number is 14
/var/tmp//cc8Xu3Hj.s:21554: Warning: Only the first path encountering the conflict is reported
/var/tmp//cc8Xu3Hj.s:21553: Warning: This is the location of the conflicting usage
I found removal of -O2 from CFLAGS supress this warning, then bootstrap
successed with bootstraping by
make bootstrap CFLAGS="-g"
and emacs seems to work fine.
I think this is a problem of gcc on FreeBSD/ia64, not of emacs, isn't it?

It could be. Please try the latest GCC version, and if it still
fails, please send a GCC bug report.

I confirmed that
% /p/scratch/yoichi/ports/gcc41/work/build/gcc/xgcc --version
xgcc (GCC) 4.1.0 20050501 (experimental)
doesn't show the warning. Thanks.
