Is it valid? That is a valid file name on GNU or Unix. Perhaps on MS Windows it is not. However, if compile.el recognizes impossible file names if they appear in an error message, that is not necessarily a problem. It only becomes a problem if this leads to incorrect parsing of error messages that really occur.
