no offense, but what's up with the German political ranting & raving?

They don't seem to be selling anything; they don't seem to be trying
to send viri...  and they don't seem to be talking about Emacs. So
why are they posting here?  Any one know what's up with this new
flava' of spam (or should I say -- wienerschnitzel? ;)).

first they hijacked some mailing hosts, then they manipulated sober virus. 
These *nationalist* dudes aren't aware that they damage the reputation 
of the German Nation as an whole.

Don't  worry. I  think that  the wole  world knows,  trust  and esteem
German people and know these deraged idiots are an exception.

I  had  a very  nice  trip  in Germany  last  year  mostly due  people
niceness. It  could have  been impossible if  these idiots were  not a
rare, noisy, exception.

No offense?  Major offense!  I'll have you know that wienerschnitzel are in
my opinion ausgezeichnet!  ;).  Let's just call it baloney!

As far as the political stuff is concerned, I agree.  Inappropriate here,
and probably anywhere.  Looks like attempts to aggravate the hard feelings
between some Germans and certain immigrants, mainly Turks.

moderators for GNU lists (Re: no offense, but what's up with the German political ranting & raving?)

OK, well this just reaffirms for me that the GNU 'mailing
lists'=='newsgroups' should be moderated.  I was thinking that a
system whereby anyone who was subscribed to the mailing list could
also sign up for the power to clear any message for posting to the
list.  There could be a simple web interface to see which messages
were in the queue.  It would then be posted to the list with an
additional header item

If Jane happens to clear something questionable (Nigerian scams,
German propaganda, sexdrugs, ...), there should be an easy way to
take away her moderator power, presumably by using some "democratic"
ranking mechanism.  More steps could be taken to quell bogosity, but
I guess you see the idea.

more frequent or more objectionable I would agree, and would be prepared to
participate in moderation of the list.

moderated, they are going to have to be hand-moderated.

To me it isn't the quantity of spam that _I_ see that's the big
concern, its the free multi-plexing, whereby each spammer who posts
to this list gets their message delivered to 100's of people around
the world.  Take your distraction and multiply it by a big number,
that's the actual cost of spam on this list.

Some of the other GNU lists (e.g. gnu-emacs-sources) are far less
readable, because of a much greater prevalence of spam.

I agree that giving the bad guys a free ride is not good.  I had not
considered the multiplier effect, either.  You could probably talk me into
changing my mind on that basis.

The Craigslist forums (http://www.craigslist.org) are democratically
moderated.  Their software currently isn't free, but they might be
willing to release it to the public at some point, especially if
there was a show of interest by the free software community.  A few
modifications, and you'd have something super. Or write something
similar from scratch. Another possibility might be Gmane.  I
personally think it would be nice to get something implemented...
