* Auto-revert on remote files: variable/option?

What do people think about introducing a variable so that users can
choose whether auto-reverting remote files should be attempted?

That would at least help to find out whether the "Tramp barfs on
reentrant calls" functionality works ;-)  Also, if it works, then it
seems that the worst that can happen is that an error is signaled
during auto-revert.  Then maybe the next auto-revert is successful.
