orgmode send email to self for important reminders?

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has a system where orgmode sends a reminder email
to one self for specific reminders (based on tags, keyword, todo state etc).

Would love to hear of examples and use cases

I use the emacs appointment system (appt-) to pop-up messages etc.  
The comments in my initialisation include these two lines:
