The devanagari-itrans method does not translate the pipe '|' into the
devanagari danda । (unicode 964) but leaves it at | ASCII 0x7c
Note: The devanagari-inscript input method inputs the danda correctly.

Currently , with devanagari-itran, you must type ".."
(double periods) to insert "।". As I'm not the author of
this input method, I don't if ".." is the standard way to
input "।". Could you show me a source that tells "|" is the
standard way for "।" in ITRANS?

Thanks! Is there anything for the undatta, anudatta (unicode 951 952, pg 3
of http://unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0900.pdf )
[For those working with the vedas this is a very commonly occurring letter ]

No I dont know. Its just that the rest of itrans is a natural way to use
an English (Roman) keyboard to input devanagari so I thought the pipe would
naturally become the danda.
Is there any reference on understanding how to write input-methods in
emacs?
Thanks again

I have just tried the itranslator from
http://www.omkarananda-ashram.org/Sanskrit/itranslator2003.htm#dls
Its a windows program but runs under wine in linux.
It uses the following
. (single) for danda (UCS 964)
.. (double dot) for double danda (965)
\' for udatta (951)
\_ for anudatta (952)
\'' (thats 2 single quotes not (??)
Do you think these can be incorporated?
Thanks
Rusi

Those two are incompatible changes. Isn't "..." for double
danda acceptable?

They seems ok.

What do you mean? Typing "\''" inserts "''"?
Please try the attached code by starting Emacs as this is:
% emacs -l dev-itrans-ext.el

Thanks Kenichi san
All these additions are good and useful to me
There is one related issue (probably in a different area of emacs).
When I enter the udatta or anudatta, an empty space gets created between
the letter and current point. Just enter \' of \_ alone and you will see
what I mean.
Do you think this calls for another bug report?
[Both in emacs 23 and 24.0.50]
Thanks
Rusi

As those additions looks like useful for all
devanagari-itrans users, and they are surely harmless, I've
just installed them.

I think those spaces are part of the glyphs. Please move
cursor on it and type C-u C-x =. What is reported in

(That was 8 years ago.)
I tried the devangari-itrans method on the current master branch, and
when I enter \' and then \_ I get two characters with no unexpected
whitespace between them. Although, I don't have the correct font, so I
just see two thin squares.
Are you still seeing this issue on a recent version of Emacs, such as
the recently released version 27.1?
Thanks in advance.

\' and \_ seem to be working correctly for udatta and anudatta
emacs 28.0.50 and 25.1.1
Though I dont perhaps have the fonts that I had when reporting the problem

Thank you. In the hope that the bug has gone away, I'm therefore
closing this bug report.
If anyone else is seeing this problem with those specific fonts, they
will hopefully open a new bug report or reopen this one.
Thanks for reporting back.
