Hi all,
My org version is
Org-mode version 8.3.4 (release_8.3.4-1019-gd44086 @
/home/kmodi/usr_local/apps/6/emacs/emacs-25/share/emacs/site-lisp/org/)
After doing M-x org-capture, when I pick one of my templates, I get:
Debugger entered--Lisp error: (wrong-type-argument stringp nil)
looking-at(nil)
org-fix-position-after-promote()
org-do-demote()
org-datetree-insert-line(2016 6 nil nil)
org-datetree--find-create("^\\*+[ ]+%d-\\([01][0-9]\\) \\w+$" 2016 6)
org-datetree-find-date-create((6 27 2016))
org-capture-set-target-location()
org-capture(nil)
funcall-interactively(org-capture nil)
call-interactively(org-capture nil nil)
command-execute(org-capture)
Looking at
(defun org-fix-position-after-promote ()
"Fix cursor position and indentation after demoting/promoting."
(let ((pos (point)))
(when (save-excursion
(beginning-of-line 1)
(looking-at org-todo-line-regexp)
(or (equal pos (match-end 1)) (equal pos (match-end 2))))
(cond ((eobp) (insert " "))
((eolp) (insert " "))
((equal (char-after) ?\ ) (forward-char 1))))))
I see that the value of org-todo-line-regexp is nil.
Is anyone else seeing that?
Thanks.

I just realized that now sexp's are not evaluated in org-capture-templates
(
http://orgmode.org/cgit.cgi/org-mode.git/commit/?id=5485170263a46fa17db67b0324c4c4e48bcdfe49
).
Should this be added to ORG-NEWS for org 9.x?
Earlier I had the 'expand-file-name' form inside the org-capture-templates.
Moving it out helped.
(defvar modi/org-capture-journal-file (expand-file-name "journal.org"
foo-directory))
(defvar modi/org-capture-notes-file (expand-file-name "notes.org"
foo-directory))
(setq org-capture-templates
'(("j" "Journal" entry ; `org-capture' binding + j
(file+datetree modi/org-capture-journal-file)
"\n* %?\n Entered on %U")
("n" "Note" entry ; `org-capture' binding + n
(file modi/org-capture-notes-file)
"\n* %?\n Context:\n %i\n Entered on %U")))
