Hi

I am looking for some subjective opinions on color themes for emacs
24. I am using (obviously) org-mode and mainly for literate programming
in R and also use gnus. There might be more to come, but I don't know
yet.

I am looking for suggestions for color themes which are on a light
background (reflections are less) and has nice and effective syntax
highlighting. Any suggestions? I am using twilight-bright at the momen,
but am somehow not that happy with it.

Any (subjective) suggestions?
Thanks,

Rainer

Hi Rainer,

I am a big fan of Zenburn.
Unfortunately, it is exactly the opposite of what you are looking for. I
find it very eye friendly.
However, maybe once in a while you want a dark-color-theme and then zenburn
might be worse to try ;)

Greetings

Torsten

Completely opposite of what you asked, you could checkout dark-emacs[1].
It is a very dark theme, designed to emulate emacs -nw in a black
background terminal. It has some org related customisations in
(custom-theme-set-variables ...) and some of the org faces are built up
on other basic faces; all in all it might give you some ideas to write
your own theme.

I'm a big fan of Solarized [1]. It comes in light and dark. I use it
in combination with the font "Source Code Pro" [2].

The anti-zenburn theme is the light version. It is subdued and the
faces make the distinctions well, as does zenburn.

I know Zenburn - I used it before under emacs 23. Very nice theme
indeed.

I will install it and keep it as a second option.

Thanks,

Indeed - Leuven looks very nice - I like the different background
colors for the code blocks - very useful.

One question though - can I use it under emacs 24, as it states
"Obsolete since Emacs 24" on git?

Yes - solarized is nice.

I am now using Occidental which offers quite a nice contrast and syntax
highlighting.

One question about the font: Can I use it under Linux as well? And how
can I install it then?

Yes you can use it.

1. Download font

2. Place font in ~/.fonts/ (you may create this directory if you don't
already have it.)

(3. Stop & start Emacs? Can't remember.)

Done.

There are 2 different packages, one using `color-theme-6.6.0' (which does not
work anymore on Emacs 24, IIRC), and another using the new "custom theme"
feature of Emacs.

So, it does well work under Emacs 24.

<#secure method=pgpmime mode=sign>

good to know, but I seem to be looking at the wrong place.

For the record: the correct git repo for emacs 24 is:

https://github.com/fniessen/emacs-leuven-theme

It is working now and looking really nice!

Thanks for everybody's input and help,

I really like your dark-emacs. Just adopted it.
Perfect for org-mode (and for mu4e, by the way).
Thanks Suvayu Ali!

From the name I would guess it uses the color theme package? If that is
the case, then it will not work with Emacs 24.

Glad that you like it. :)

My eventual goal with this is to make it fairly complete in terms of
supported terminals, and request for inclusion with Emacs. At the
moment it supports gui/X-window, 8 bit, and 256 bit colour terminals.

The name stayed this way, but it has been updated for newer Emacs.
