Thanks. Yes, it makes sense, and it does work once run inside a progn.

So that doesn't explain why sometimes, with the latest changes to ispell.el to make it more compatible with hunspell, 
I got the error message :

ispell.el:3062
    (error "%s did not output version line" ispell-program-name))

Moreover, it does not happen all the time.
Need to find a way to investigate this.

Make sure to execute the forms together, without returning to the
command loop in between (which does an implicit accept-process-output
while waiting for keyboard input).
