Does pandoc convert from docx to org-mode?
Does libreoffice?

What problems did you encounter with docx-->org-->docx?
Did you try odt-->org-->odt?
Perhaps Someone (TM) should write up a GNU ELPA package that does all
the required steps with pandoc transparently. Provided it works well
enough with at least odt, it would at least solve most of my needs.
