Let's just fix Emacs so that its builds are deterministic. Long ago
perhaps there was a good reason to put cruft like hostnames into build
products, but those days are gone.

I don't disagree, but such things are shown very prominently (e.g. in the C-h C-a about screen), so this would be a rather big change.
