If you set up a filter -- say
arc: gnu
mark a package to install with "i" and hit "x" to install, the *Packages* buffer loses its filtered state and comes back displaying all packages.

That's not intentional AFAIK. But whether it's good or bad, I don't know.
Given that recreating a filtered state is a lot more trouble than quitting
one, I think it's a bad thing.
