Hi,
This task is handled with capture templates.
Here's how I do it:
(setq org-capture-templates
'(("t" "Todo" entry (file+headline (concat org.d "gtd.org") "Tasks")
"* TODO %^{Brief Description} %^g\n%?\nAdded: %U %i\n")
;; more templates here
))
(global-set-key (kbd "C-~") 'org-capture)
