In Unicode -- yes, there is a way. A simple one? Comparatively.

Install Mule-UCS-0.84 (you could try another version, of course), open a
file in utf-8 encoding, type M-x insert-ucs-character<RET>178<RET> and here
it is -- superscript 2. 178 is the decimal codepoint of the character
SUPERSCRIPT TWO.

http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U2070.pdf
